Dawn Lucille Diamond, 89, a resident of Baldwinsville, NY died Sunday morning with her family by her side. Dawn was the oldest child of Ray and Marion Michels born on December 14, 1929 in Syracuse, NY.
Dawn graduated in 1947 from Cathedral High School, Syracuse, NY and went to work at Carrier Corporation. In June 1948 she married her teenage sweetheart, Bob Diamond. After her family was grown, she worked for many years at Switz’s, Dey Bros, and Country Kids. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Guild at St. Lucy’s Church, Syracuse, NY. After moving to Baldwinsville in 1968, Dawn was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She was a Columbiette and attended Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at St. Mary’s.
While we are sad our mom is no longer with us, we are happy she is with the Lord, for whom she exemplified her faith each day. Our mother was our first teacher, modeling a strong work ethic that she employed well into her seventies. She enjoyed babysitting for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to bake us cookies (especially half-moons) and cakes. Our Mom met every challenge of the past few years without complaint. She is now with our father and both showed us how to die with dignity.
Dawn was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Bob; daughter, Catherine Mary; sister, Jackie; brother, Raymond; daughter-in-law, Lisa Diamond; and grandson, Kevin Varn.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl (Don) Varn, Robert Diamond Jr., Thom (Arlene) Diamond, Mary (Jeff) King, Donna (Mark) Tivnan, Jim (Audrey) Diamond, Teresa (Dave) Nipper, Peg Austin, John (Gretchen) Diamond, daughters-in-law Jo Cullen and Donna Diamond, and sister-in-law, Blanche Michels. She is also survived by 35 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at St. Mary’s Church, 47 Syracuse St, Baldwinsville, NY. A mass of Christian Burial will be held immediately following the services. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in her name to Hospice of CNY.
