Isa Muriel (Getman) Huntley passed away on August 31, 2018 at the age of 98 at Cortland Park Nursing Center in Cortland NY. She was born on November 10, 1919 to Jefferson and Blanche (Cole) Getman in Constania, NY and was one of seven children.
She was married to Nelson W. Huntley on June 29, 1940 and they resided predominantly in Baldwinsville in the home Nelson built on Downer Street. They celebrated 56 years of marriage until Nelson passed in July of 1996. Isa also endured the loss of her eldest daughter, Loretta Jane Smart in 2004.
She is predeceased by five of her siblings, Raymond, Frederick, and Ernest Getman, Olive Getman, and her beloved identical twin sister, Iva (George) Colbert of Phoenix, NY. Iva and Isa were close, as only twins can be, all of their lives. She is survived by her youngest brother, Robert Getman of Baldwinsville.
She is also survived by daughter Cynthia (Cyndi) Guy (Richard Burke) of Cortland, grandchildren, Eric Smart, Peter (Tracey) Smart, and Stephanie Smart Jackowski (Rich Mamone), all of Baldwinsville, and three great-grandchildren, Noah and Leah Jackowski and Ryan Gustin. Also, the daughters of her twin who embraced her as their mom and were devoted to her through the remainder of her life, Nora (Rick) Ostrander, Katie (Gary) Schaus, and Meg (Mitch) Bullis.
Isa worked many years in the Baldwinsville community, first as a teller at First Trust Bank (now Key Bank) and later as assistant manager. She also worked for many years as a legal secretary for the law offices of Farrell, Martin, and Barnell. Isa was a devoted member of the First Methodist Church of Baldwinsville and was an active volunteer with the church food pantry and for various church charitable fundraising events. She also served many years as a volunteer with Baldwinsville's Female Charitable and Meals on Wheels where she continued to serve into her early 90's.
Isa was dedicated to a lifetime of service and caring and was known for preparing food for family and friends or knitting mittens or sweaters to donate to someone in need. Isa was an avid reader and she enjoyed playing cards; Bridge and Pitch with her friends at Golden Legacy apartments and Go Fish with her granddaughter Leah.
Calling hours will be at Gates Funeral Home in Baldwinsville from 4-6 on Wednesday September 5 with services to follow.
