James’ journey began in July of 1923 in Baldwinsville, NY and continues at his eternal resting place as of 31 May 2019. He attended Baldwinsville schools and was a valued participant on the hockey and baseball teams. He dropped out of school during WWII to join the Coast Guard and was honorably discharged after his service. He married Jane Martin after coming home from the service and spent several years doing various jobs including being a meat cutter for A&P, a snowplow driver for the town and other odd jobs until he joined Carrier Corp. in 1955. After 30 years of devoted service at Carrier, he retired and then worked another 17 years as a general handyman at AC Lamb & Sons.
James had a love of God and shared his faith graciously and prolifically. He attended First Baptist Church for 91 years and then recently found a new church family at Faith Baptist Church. He had a love of music and was a regular participant in the church choir as well as the chorus at Carrier. He also spent much time helping with children’s choir. James’ volunteer activities included serving on the deacon and trustee boards at First Baptist church and also an ambulance driver for the Baldwinsville Ambulance Corp. He was an generous blood donor giving over 12 gallons of blood during his lifetime.
James was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, his 5 sisters and 2 brothers. He is survived by his 3 children, David, Dawn and Russ (Sharonbeth) along with 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 5 from 4 to 7 pm at Gates Funeral Home, 29 W. Genesee St., Baldwinsville; a memorial service Thursday June 6 at 10 am at Faith Baptist Church, 7312 Van Buren Road, Baldwinsville and a graveside service with Military Honors to follow.
