Allen “Al” Winegard, 79, went to be with God on December 15 after a courageous battle with Covid-19. Al was born and raised in Delmar, NY. After graduating from Clarkson in 1963, he moved to the Syracuse area to begin a career with Niagara Mohawk, retiring in 1994.
Al was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Baldwinsville, serving as an elder, Clerk of Session, tenor in the choir, bell ringer, and member of many committees. He was an avid supporter of Beaver Lake Nature Center, a member of the Board of the Friends of Beaver Lake, and served as Treasurer. He would often be seen flipping pancakes or grilling hot dogs at Beaver Lake events. Al helped with the Christmas Bureau, coordinating the donation of turkeys to area families. He was an active alumnus of Clarkson University and was awarded the prestigious Golden Knight award, as well as numerous other honors. An avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Ted Williams was his hero!
Al took great joy in gardening, traveling, golf, cars and the stock market. A kind and gentle man, he was loved and will be missed by all who were fortunate to have known him.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Baldwinsville, NY; son John (Kymberly) of McKinney, TX; step-daughters Karen (Stuart) Teale of Forest Grove, OR and Sandra Morrissey of Fort Mill, SC; sister-in-law Jane Winegard of Ocoee, FL; grandchildren Amanda Winegard of Woodbury, MN, Nicholas Winegard of Buffalo, NY, Braden & Olivia & Carter Teale, Alexa & Isabella Morrissey; nieces Deborah Winegard of Atlanta, GA, Lorraine (Dale) Harper of Diamond, OH, Ruth (Carmen) Roldan of Winter Garden, FL.
Al was predeceased by his parents, George and Mildred; his brother Wallace; and his eldest son William.
In the interest of the safety of our friends and family, there will be no calling hours or services at this time. A private service will be held at a later date. Al will be buried in Delmar alongside his parents and son.
Contributions in Al’s memory may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Baldwinsville, 64 Oswego St., Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
