David W. Lane, 88
Army Veteran, Educator, Father, Friend
David W. Lane, 88 of Baldwinsville, NY passed away at his home on Thursday, October 5,
2023, 8 days shy of his 89 th birthday.
He was born in Deposit, NY. David served as a translator during the Korean War. He completed
his Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Albany, and earned his Master’s Degree at SUNY Oswego.
“Mr. Lane” moved to Baldwinsville in 1960 where he was one of the first teachers hired at
Durgee Jr. High School. He taught Social Studies until 1981. He went on to be named the
instructional supervisor for K-12 Social Studies. He was named English Supervisor for grades 7-
9, and was later named the principle at Durgee. During his tenure as a school teacher he coached
football and lacrosse. After retiring from teaching he went on to provide teacher training to
schools up and down the east coast.
When he officially retired, he loved golfing, sailing and traveling with his friends and family.
Surviving are his girlfriend, Charla Jennings, his children, Kim (Ed) Onisk, Karen (Ted) Witter,
David (Karen) Lane, Susan Gates, his grandchildren Lauren (Heather) Witter, Michael (Ashley)
Onisk, Jennie Onisk, Nicholas (MacKenzie) Gates and Great Grandchild, Carmen Elizabeth, his
sisters Margaret (Robert) Gabrys, Liz (Alan) Seely. and his nieces and nephews.
David is predeceased by his parents, his former wife, Anne P. Lane, his sister Yvonne L.(Fred)
Beaudry, and his son-in-law, Harlan C.“Skip” Gates.

at Crouse Hospital.
Calling hours will be from 4pm – 6pm on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Gates Funeral Home,
29 W. Genesee St., Baldwinsville, NY 13027. On Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 11:00am a
gravesite funeral service and burial will be held at the Riverview Cemetery, 70 Tappan Street,
Baldwinsville, NY.
