Esther L (Bulmore) Weeks – April 3, 1925-Jan 26,2021
Esther Weeks –-95 - formerly of Marcellus, Baldwinsville, and most recently, Syracuse, NY,
passed away peacefully on Jan 26, 2021. Born in Albion, NY, she graduated from Albion High
School where she met her husband of 74 ½ years, John. She attended and graduated from the
Buffalo Children’s Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1945. She and John
married in 1946 after he returned from WWII and lived in Ithaca while he was studying at
Cornell. They moved to Nedrow outside of Syracuse after he graduated and she worked as a
pediatric nurse at the old Crouse Irving Hospital for 2 years until they had 3 children and she
decided to stay home with them. They had one more child while in Nedrow and then one more
when they moved to Oswego where John took a teaching job at Oswego State. . They later
moved to Sherburne, NY and to Baldwinsville and then to Marcellus for 37 years where Esther
was able to get back into direct care. She worked as a Home Health Aide for many years and
was beloved by her clients for her wonderful caring nature, sense of humor, and willingness to
serve. She was also able to pursue some other passions. She loved to crochet and she
crocheted many many lap robes for Seniors and hats for Preemies at St Joe’s. Her work was
outstanding and she blessed many people with her beautiful handiwork in comforters, hats,
mittens, scarves, Barbie Clothes ,doillies, quilts, and many other items. She loved dolls and she
found and dressed many dolls to send to little girls at the Redbird Mission School in Beverly,
KY. She also sewed lovely garments to send to Uganda as one of Christ Community’s ministries
to clothe and financially support school Children in Uganda.
She was a member of the Skaneateles Singing Seniors for many years and found much joy in
singing all over the area with the group.
She also organized and oversaw the making of more than 25,000 ovarian cancer awareness
ribbons for the Weeks Family’s ” Hope For Heather” Foundation to hand out at the State Fair
each year.
She made many friends over the years with her wonderful sense of humor and her positive
disposition and caring nature. She was always a huge support to her husband John in all of his
pursuits in Nature and Environmental issues – he will be the first to tell you how important her
support was.
She and John were members of Grace Chapel in Skaneateles for many years, and then
members of Christ Community UMC when they moved back to Baldwinsville.
Esther was predeceased by siblings, Harold (Ruth) Bulmore, Grace ( Leonard) Hales, Gladys
(Dave) Wiggins, granddaughter Heather Weeks and great-granddaughter Sydney Raventos. She
is survived by her husband of 74 Years John A Weeks, 5 children Denise Weeks (Richard) Bush,
Gary (Frieda) Weeks, Brenda Weeks, Don Weeks, and Joni Weeks (Nick) Dyer of Georgia, three
grandchildren Ariel Weeks(Ross) Raventos, Katrina Bush(Mark) Williams and Nathan Weeks.
And three great-grandchildren. Sophia Bush, Isabelle Williams and Finley Raventos.
She was beloved by her family and will be greatly missed for her constant loving support. But
we know where she is and who she is with. Calling hours will be held from 10 - 11 am Saturday
April 17th, 2021, followed immediately by a memorial service at 11 AM that will be live-streamed on Facebook from Christ Community United
Methodist Church. Attendance may be limited because of covid restrictions - all are welcome
