Heather Costello Bartman

    Heather Costello Bartman, 44, of Baldwinsville, NY, died after a brave fight with cancer on the morning of Thursday, 6/10/2021 at home surrounded by loved ones. She was a loving mother, wife, and principal.  Heather was born in Auburn, NYon September 17, 1976 to parents Jon and Kathy Bowen, who raised Heather and her sister, Melanie, in Homer and Baldwinsville, NY.  Heather was a dedicated educator, first as a music teacher in Lyons and later as an Assistant Principal at APW.  In 2019, Heather became School Principal at Genesee Elementary in Auburn, NY. She found an incredibly welcoming and supportive family in this role. During that fall, Heather was diagnosed with cancer that she bravely faced with unending courage and strength.  In her remaining time, Heather savored every moment with her beloved family, friends, and co-workers, married her love, Nate, and remained devoted to her career.  Heather infused people with her joy and made everyone she met feel grateful for having her in their lives. Her straight-forward yet compassionate approach to others and her ability to have fun wherever she went were truly inspiring.  Heather is survived by her husband, Nathan Bartman, daughter, Chloe Costello, parents, Jon and Kathy Bowen, sister, Melanie Bowen Hoy, brother-in-law Jeff Hoy, and nieces Anastasia Hoy, Allegra Hoy, and Acadia Hoy.  Calling hours will be held at Gates Funeral Home at 29 West Genesee St, Baldwinsville, NY 13027, Baldwinsville, NY 13027 on Friday, June 18 from 4-7pm.  In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Hospice of Central New York & of the Finger Lakes or the Genesee Elementary Scholarship Program (244 Genesee St., Auburn, NY 13021 or geneseescholarship.org) for the scholarship created for music students in Heather’s memory.
