Janet Miller Knapp left this life on April 16, 2025, at the age of 92. She was born in Van Hornesville, New York, the daughter of Howard and Mabel Miller. Janet was educated at the Owen D. Young School and the State University at Cortland where she prepared to be an Elementary School teacher. During her lifetime she taught at Cazenovia, Marion, and the Onondaga Reservation schools. She also once directed a preschool in Cicero. Interacting with young children was a great pleasure for her. In July of 1955, Janet married Gordon W. Knapp, a Methodist Minister. She accompanied him as he served several churches in central New York, making a wonderful home wherever he was assigned; a minister's wife "par excellence". Janet was always helpful without being intrusive, friendly without being effusive, dedicated without being overbearing. She loved to spend time with her family, and also cheer on the Syracuse basketball team. Janet is survived by her husband of almost seventy years and three children: William (Angie) Knapp, Timothy (Patricia) Knapp, and Susan (Kevin) Lawrence. She also cherished seven much-loved grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held for Janet at Baldwinsville United Methodist Church on April 25, 2025 at 1:00pm. The family will greet friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, consider a gift to Francis House.
