Kirk Dunseath Obituary

Kirk Alan Dunseath
October 5, 2024
Kirk Alan Dunseath, 64, of Baldwinsville, passed away Oct. 5 at home with his loving wife Mary Ann at his side.
Kirk was born in Brooklyn, the fourth son of David and Gloria Niemi Dunseath. He spent his early years in the family homestead on Staten Island before moving to North Syracuse when he was fourteen.
Kirk graduated from North Syracuse High School in 1978. While in high school, he enjoyed participation in the music department, especially the chorus and school musicals as well as band.
After high school, Kirk returned to Staten Island and attended Wagner College. He worked in the banking and finance industry for his entire career at various financial institutions in New York City and Central New York. His last employer was Solvay Bank, where he worked in the mortgage department.
He returned to North Syracuse in his early twenties and met up with a girl he knew in high school, Mary Ann Groom. They dated for a few years before tying the knot in November 1986 at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in North Syracuse.
Kirk and Mary Ann lived in the Village Green Apartments outside Baldwinsville for a couple of years before buying a house in Village Green. They loved tinkering on projects at the house, planting shrubs and flowers and keeping the house up so it was one of the nicest on the block.
Some of Kirk's loves – besides Mary Ann – were fine dining, wine and spirits and entertaining and old movies. He loved to have family and friends over to the house and regale them with conversation, fine food and great drink. He even got a part-time job at Harbor View Wine and Liquors so he could share his love and knowledge about wines and spirits with the customers.
He also loved cooking and has served up many great dinners to family and friends. He often had the TV set to cooking shows so he could pick up a few pointers.
Kirk collected models of old cars. These are displayed where he could enjoy them.
Kirk also was a lover of dogs and he and Mary Ann raised a number of rescues throughout their marriage.
Kirk is survived by his wife of nearly 38 years, Mary Ann Groom Dunseath, an aunt Muriel Niemi of Camillus, cousins Paul O'Brien of New Jersey, Edward O'Brien of Tennessee, nieces Ashleigh, Lauren, Katie and Kelsey and nephews Scott and Jeffrey, and three sisters-in-law, Cheryl and Catherine Henry and Debra Groom.
He was predeceased by his parents David and Gloria, brothers David and Scott and aunt and uncle Carolyn and Edward O'Brien.
Calling hours will be 4pm-7pm at Gates Funeral Home in Baldwinsville on Thursday, October 10th. Graveside services will be at 11am on Friday, October 11th at Riverview Cemetery in Baldwinsville.
