Marion L. Sleight, 97, formerly of Baldwinsville, NY, left for her eternal home with the Lord on March 15, 2025. Marion, the only child of Philip and Ina DePuy of Poughkeepsie, NY, was born May 13, 1927, and married the love of her life, Jim, in 1946. Marion was a wonderful mother to her three children, a leader with Girl Scouts, and served as Treasurer for the Female Charitable Society, as well as the United Presbyterian Women. She was named Woman of the Year of Baldwinsville in 1978 for her volunteer service. Married for 63 years until his death, Marion declared in a journal that her “life ended when Jim died”. However, thanks to God, good friends, and family, within two years she wrote, “My new life is interesting and exciting!” A highlight for Marion was a cruise to Alaska, accompanied by her best friend Gwen Vanderveer, with the Gaithers, where she got to hug her favorite, Mark Lowry. Marion’s love for God, for His word, and for music contributed to her always cheerful outlook, and she was a joy to be around. She loved birds, travel, making and sharing chocolate chip cookies, and playing cards with friends and family, especially the “Dumb Game”.
Surviving are a son, James G. (Joanne) of Rochester, and two daughters, Kathy (Louis) Demarest of Kelso, Washington, and Karen (Dennis) Dickson of Middleburg, Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, March 20, 9-11 AM at Gates Funeral Home, 29 W. Genesee Street, Baldwinsville. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 pm Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Baldwinsville, 64 Oswego St., Baldwinsville. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Female Charitable Society, 10 River St, Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
