Phyllis M Jaffarian

Phyllis M. Jaffarian, 79, of Baldwinsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4th,
2025 at Francis House in Syracuse. She was born in Syracuse, NY to Shirley (Johnston)
and Robert Edinger. Phyllis was a lifelong resident of Baldwinsville, NY.
Phyllis attended Baker High School in Baldwinsville, NY and Onondaga Community College
in Syracuse, NY. She worked for Royal Insurance in Syracuse as a supervisor and decided
to take early retirement to pursue her lifelong desire of becoming a nurse. Known for her
compassion and willingness to help others, at the age of 54 she enrolled in nursing school.
Upon graduation she worked for the Visiting Nurse Association of Central New York until
her retirement. Her cheerful attitude and positive bedside manner brought comfort to her
countless patients and their families.
Phyllis was an avid boater and spent many happy years boating with her husband and
friends on the numerous waterways, lakes, and canals of Central New York.
As a loving mother and grandmother, she made it a point to never miss a cross country
meet, track meet or wrestling match. Travelling near and far, Phyllis was well known by
generations of teammates as always having lollipops in her purse to pass out after the
event. Phyllis had a knack for sewing and made many pieces of her own clothing in her
younger years. She made numerous Halloween costumes for her children and
grandchildren. She was the first one her grandchildren called when a science project was
due at school, allowing her creativity and enthusiasm to shine through.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, brother Robert Edinger, and son Mark McComb.
Phyllis is survived by her husband Michael Jaffarian; daughter Michelle McComb, son
Jeffrey McComb, brother David (Dixie) Edinger, sister-in-law Bonnie Edinger; daughter-in-
law Linda (Don) McComb; grandchildren Allison (Shane) DePutron, Keith (Kelly) McComb,
Heather (Scottye) Guardarramos, Emily (Brad) Berry, Sarah (Phillip) McComb, Jack
(Marcus) McComb; and great-grandchildren James DePutron, Anna DePutron, Jane
DePutron, and Marina Guardarramos.
Calling hours will be held from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 26th, 2025 at
Gates Funeral Home, 29 West Genesee St., Baldwinsville, New York. Donations can be
made in Phyllis’ memory to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
