After a valiant battle with cancer, Richard (affectionately known as Rick) Bryant Jones II died on November 4, 2017 in Sacramento CA. He was 36 years old. He leaves behind his wife, Christy Jones, and Dog, Indie Jones ( though there is always the argument of how the it was spelled)
Rick was born on September 28, 1981. In Syracuse, NY, to father Richard Jones and mother Katie Jones, who survive him. He is also survived by his two sisters , Tamara Barnett and Samantha Jones., numerous nieces and nephews. Rick started life in a trailer park where he wore socks for mittens, learned how to play golf left handed using the back of right handed clubs. He was a stand out golfer for Baker High (Bees) school, Rick got his first hole in one at Foxfire, and in Ricks style it had to be on a par 4. He started his obsession of the "internet' by reading hard copy encyclopedias, and his love for all things trivia, such as knowing all of the presidents and their election years before he even started school. His love of learning never waned. He excelled in all subjects at school and went on to receive a Bachelor's of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Cornell (2003) and a Master's of Science in Civil and Environmental from Stanford University (2012).At Cornell, Rick met Christy and they decided to "try a few dates." After graduation Rick worked in Syracuse while Christy moved to Sacramento, CA. Rick decided long distance wasn't going to work, so he proposed and moved out to Sacramento where the couple got married on August 7, 2004. Rick joined Devine Tarbell & Associates, Inc. (DTA) as an associate engineer. DTA was later acquired by HDR Engineering, and Rick rose to become Vice President in just a few years. Rick was a driven professional who wanted every project he worked on to succeed and everyone who worked with him to prosper. When he wasn't engrossed with work, he made time for golf, traveling and drinking beers, especially IPAs. When diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013, he remained dedicated in his work and in his will to fight his illness.
He never accepted the inevitable and never gave up. He got through his bucket list (all of one item...getting to the British Open); and being the thorough engineer he was, he made sure to check it off twice! He remained a brave, iron-willed man, even throughout his final months.
Rick requested that he be cremated and have his ashes released into the American river. In lieu of flowers, Please send a donation to the National Brain Tumor Society.
On December 2, we will have a Celebration of life at Foxfire Golf courses. 1-4 pm
Date of Death: November 4, 2017
