Robert "Bob" J. Barney March 9, 2019 Robert J Barney, 85, of Cato passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9th at home with his beloved wife by his side after battling a short illness. Robert was born in Mannsville, NY on May 21st, 1933 son of Willard and Liolla (Wart) Barney. Bob was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 545 for over 64 years. During these years he was a master mechanic and welder. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. He was an early pioneer of snowmobile racing tallying many wins throughout the years and was a charter member of Mexico Trail Riders Club. He was also a devoted member of the William Colvin Club for many years. Bob enjoyed watching his westerns on television and playing cards with his friends and family. Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather with a primary focus of family and work ethic. He was a driven man full of ambition and talent. He was a very hands on worker capable of doing anything. He was a member of Jehovah's Witness Fulton Congregation. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Deborah (Hoag) Barney; 4 children, Robin Barney of California, Jolene (Mike) Roberts of South Carolina, Daniel (Julie) Barney of Mexico, and Matthew Barney of Cato; 5 grandchildren, Jarred (Jill) Roberts, Travis (Melissa) Roberts, Cain (Ashley) Roberts, Annie Green, Justin (Erin) Timbello; 7 great grandchildren, Matty, Chloe, Kylie, Camden, Leah, Jonathan, and Porter; siblings, Richard (Beverly) Barney, Joan Barney (Paul) Knapp, sister-in-law Denise Domiter and extended family member, Elisa Rhoades; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and sister, Katherine (Barney) Lillis. Calling hours will be Friday, March 15th from 4 to 7 pm at Gates Funeral Home, 29 W. Genesee St., Baldwinsville. Services will be held Saturday, March 16th at 10 am at the funeral home.
