Sidney "Zach" Haggett Obituary

Sidney Zachariah Haggett, 18 of Marcellus died Tuesday January 1, 2019 peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Zach's short life story began August 10th, 2000. He was diagnosed with Mucolipidosis at 3 years old. He was given a life expectancy of less than 10 years but he proved everyone wrong! Although forever small, he was always mighty! His spirit and Courage would carry him through many surgeries and hardships throughout his young life. His rare disease made him a one in a million kid but a true inspiration to behold if you knew him. He could light up a room with a smile and fill a room with laughter with his incredibly quit wit.

His heart proved to be his biggest and most beautiful of all of his assets. Through his lifelong experiences and stays at the Gollisano Children's Hospital he developed a deep understanding of what it's like to be a sick child away from home who just needs to be distracted. Over the years he was involved with many organizations like Y94Radiothon, Children's Miracle Network and OttoThon raising money for the playrooms and clinics and even asking family to donate gifts to the hospital in lieu of presents for his own birthdays. He dressed up in a Santa suit and asked his friends at school to take selfies with "Zanta" and donated the proceeds to the hospital. His heart was much bigger than his tiny body could house. He made our family creed  "Every day is a Gift" and that is was!

Zach's life as a student in Marcellus was a wonderful experience thanks to his TA, teachers, therapists and specials kids who made his time there as great as is was! He had so many special relationships and amazing friendships throughout the district and community thanks to the love and support from past to present. His years in chorus and Facs class brought him extra special joy and his job and Finally Ours Diner was the absolute highlight of his life! He could not have ended his life on a better note than to have been touched by a better group of amazing and beautiful people who not only work and run the diner but the customers who became his friends. You all made an amazing difference in his life and made the last years of his life so very special and we as his family are so very grateful to have been able to see our son see that kind of life accomplishment. That is beyond measure.
To Dr. Cherrick and our Nurses at the Clinic over the last 15 years, Especially Tracy And ThydaTeng Thank You for all of the love and hard work and long days and nights and endless heart you give every patient and every family long after your shift is over!
