Walter B Maihofer

Walter B Maihofer Jr. 83, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 27th
2022 after an extended illness.
Walter was born in Dobbs Ferry, NY on October 19 th , 1938 to the late Walter and Viola
Maihofer. He earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Oswego and his master’s
degree from the University of Columbia. After an illustrious career as a teacher, he
served as the superintendent at Greenburgh-North Castle UFSD for 24 years.
Walt put his family above all else and made every holiday and gathering special. He
was a warm, compassionate man with a wonderful sense of humor and he told the best
stories, remembering every detail. He was an avid traveler, loved long walks on the
beach and his favorite pastime was spending time with his wife Judy in St. Augustine,
Florida.
Surviving to cherish his memories are two special grandsons Ian Andrew and Colin
Stewart Maihofer, devoted sister-in-law Nan Milden (late Jim), loving brother-in-law Rick
(Connie) Fry and many nieces and nephews. Walt was preceded in death by his
beloved wife of 61 years Judy (2012), wonderful daughter Theresa (2013), devoted son
Jason (2020), beloved daughter-in-law Evelyn Campbell-Maihofer (2021), adored sister
Priscilla (2015) and his loving sister-in-law Sally Cronk (2020). His ever-present smile
and loving nature will be missed by all who knew him.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 7 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Gates Funeral
Home, 29 West Genesee Street, Baldwinsville, NY. The service will follow immediately
